Nouakchott

A Japanese delegation currently on a working visit to Mauritania, led by Ms Musuka Takahashi, Director-General for African Affairs at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited the Maritime Academy’s Fisheries Training and Qualification Centre yesterday, Thursday. The centre was established with funding from the Japanese government.

During the visit, the Centre’s Director, Mr Maa Al-Ainin Ould Hayeh, gave a detailed presentation on the institution’s remit and its role in training national personnel in the field of marine fisheries, outlining the 16 specialisations offered by the Centre, as well as its capacity and the services it provides to trainees.

He explained that the centre provides suitable training conditions, including accommodation, meals and healthcare, ensuring an appropriate environment for learning and vocational training, noting that this facility represents a development landmark that embodies the strength of the cooperative and friendly relations between Mauritania and Japan.

Members of the Japanese delegation toured the centre’s various facilities, where they viewed the classrooms, training workshops and accommodation wings for trainees, and listened to explanations regarding the nature of the training programmes and the services provided.

At the conclusion of the visit, the head of the Japanese delegation, in a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency, expressed her satisfaction with the interest and appreciation she had observed among Mauritanians for this project, emphasising her country’s commitment to continuing to support cooperation projects that contribute to human resource development and the enhancement of professional skills.

It is worth noting that the construction of the Fisheries Training and Rehabilitation Centre was funded by the Japanese government to the tune of 15 million euros, equivalent to approximately seven billion old ouguiyas, as part of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
