In Washington: Minister of Economic Affairs Outlines Our Country’s Approach to Preventing Vulnerability and Conflict

Washington

His Excellency the Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, Dr. Abdallah Ould Souleimane Ould Cheikh Sidiya, participated as a keynote speaker at a high-level symposium in Washington, D.C., dedicated to discussing the topic “Prevention and Risks Associated with Fragility, Conflict, and Violence,” as part of the World Bank Forum on Fragility 2026, held from June 8 to 10.

During his remarks at this international symposium, His Excellency the Minister emphasized that Mauritania has made a decisive choice to place the issue of prevention at the forefront and as a priority in the formulation of its various development and public policies.

His Excellency explained that the Mauritanian government is guided by the firm conviction that achieving sustainable stability and lasting community security can only be attained through a proactive, comprehensive approach that is closely coordinated across all sectors, with the support and backing of the international community.

In a related context, His Excellency the Minister announced an important practical step embodying this approach, as our country has officially launched, in partnership and cooperation with the World Bank, a process to qualify our country to benefit from “Prevention and Resilience Allocations.” This step is expected to provide national efforts with the necessary resources to strengthen development gains and the resilience of the economy and society in the face of complex regional challenges.

It is worth noting that this year’s Vulnerability Forum was distinguished by high-level international participation, bringing together prominent political leaders, heads of international financial institutions such as the “World Bank,” and global relief organizations, alongside local entrepreneurs and innovators, to formulate flexible financing and development solutions for conflict environments.
