President of Republic Oversees First Disbursement of Teachers’ Housing Fund Allowances

On 6 April in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, supervised the distribution of the first tranche of support from the Teachers’ Housing Fund.

This tranche, with a total financial envelope of MRO 6.917 billion, benefits 1,372 individuals, including 189 women. The beneficiaries include teachers, field supervisors, and administrators who have completed at least 15 years of service in the primary and secondary education sectors within the Ministry of Education and Education System Reform.

The creation of this fund reflects the President’s vision and his belief in the central role of teachers, who are considered the cornerstone of the education system. Improving the quality of education is closely linked to improving teachers’ living and working conditions.

The fund is financed through three main sources: an annual state contribution included in the national budget, a 25% contribution from beneficiaries (repayable over 15 years), and revenues from the sale of housing units built by the General Delegation for National Solidarity and the Fight Against Exclusion (Taazour) as part of the “Dari” program, valued at MRO 22 billion, in addition to contributions from partners.

The launch of the fund is part of a broader set of reforms and initiatives undertaken in the education sector in recent years, including infrastructure development, strengthening human resources, and promoting the concept of the “republican school,” aimed at ensuring quality education that fosters national identity and strengthens social cohesion.
