Speaker of the National Assembly Attends the 17th Conference of Speakers of Francophone African Parliaments

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Mohamed Bemb Meguett, participated in the 17th Conference of Speakers of Parliaments and Parliamentary Assemblies of the African Region of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie, which opened Wednesday, in Lomé, the capital of the Republic of Togo, under the theme: “African and Francophone Parliaments: Intensifying Efforts for Peace, Democracy, and Sustainable Development.”

In a speech during the conference, the Speaker of the National Assembly highlighted the pivotal role of parliaments in consolidating democracy, strengthening the rule of law, and supporting the path to sustainable development.

He emphasized that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie provides a unique framework for dialogue and the exchange of experiences, highlighting the strategic role of parliaments in addressing African challenges related to peace, stability, and good governance.

He underscored the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, calling for further strengthening of joint parliamentary cooperation and reaffirming Mauritania’s commitment, under the leadership of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to continue efforts aimed at consolidating peace, democracy, and sustainable development.

He called for strengthening cooperation mechanisms, developing training programs, and enabling broader participation by youth and women in political life.
