The National Human Rights Commission receives Category A accreditation from the United Nations

Geneva

The National Human Rights Commission received Tuesday its accreditation certificate under the highest classification for national human rights commissions (Category ‘A’) during an official ceremony held at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.

The President of the World Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, Ms. Amina Bouayach, and the Chair of the Sub-Committee on Accreditation, presented the accreditation certificate to the Commission’s President, Mr. El-Bekay Abdelmalek, on the sidelines of the Alliance’s General Assembly, held at the United Nations Palace in Geneva.

This recognition follows the Commission’s successful completion of all stages of the evaluation process as part of the re-accreditation procedure, which was overseen by the World Alliance’s Sub-Committee on Accreditation in October 2025, confirming its compliance with the Paris Principles governing the work of national human rights institutions, and its commitment to international standards regarding independence, effectiveness and pluralism.

On the sidelines of the General Assembly meetings, the Committee’s Chair participated in meetings of the regional networks of national human rights institutions, of which the Committee is an active member, notably the African Network (RINADH), the Francophone Association (AFCNDH), in which the Committee holds the position of Vice-President, as well as the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, where it is represented on its Executive Board.
