Geneva

The Minister of Public Service and Labor, Ms. Mariem Mint Boydiel Ould Houmeid, held a meeting on Tuesday in Geneva with the Director-General of the International Labour Office, Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between Mauritania and the ILO in the areas of labor and social protection.
The meeting focused on ongoing preparations for the national social security forums scheduled for next April in Nouakchott, with particular emphasis on the importance of this event as a national platform for dialogue among the various stakeholders.
The two parties also examined the role of the International Labour Office in supporting these forums, particularly through the provision of technical expertise and tailored support, to ensure their success and the achievement of the set objectives.
Discussions also focused on ways to support workers’ professional organizations and strengthen their capacities, particularly following the completion of the process to determine trade union representativeness. Both parties emphasized the importance of training and skills-building programs to enable these organizations to fully play their role in defending workers’ rights and contributing to public policy.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the strong cooperative relationship between Mauritania and the International Labour Office, as well as a shared commitment to continue coordinating efforts to promote the development of the labor sector and the social security system in accordance with international standards.
