President of Republic: “This Year’s Special Ramadan Social Program Is More Comprehensive in Terms of Geographical Coverage, Diversity, and Product Availability.”

On February 18, President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani affirmed that this year’s program is more comprehensive in terms of geographical coverage, diversity, product availability, and the volume of financial credits allocated to it. This is part of the government’s efforts to ease the financial burden on citizens during the holy month.
Following his visit to several model interventions under the Ramadan social program, His Excellency recalled that last year’s interventions were widely welcomed by citizens for providing comfort and helping them fast in appropriate conditions.
The President explained that the program consists of two main components. The first component is a commercial initiative implemented by the government in coordination with the private sector. It includes organizing fairs to sell basic commodities at capped and subsidized prices. The scope of this initiative has been extended to all wilayas. There has also been an increase in the number of points of sale and an improvement in product quality. Additionally, 137 points of sale have been provided for basic commodities, including meat, which is offered at reduced prices.
He added that the number of fairs increased to nine this year, up from seven last year. He emphasized that the fairs offer basic products in the required quantities at lower prices than last year. They also include new products not previously covered while ensuring quality.
His Excellency said that the Ministry of Fisheries, Maritime Affairs, and Ports has made 476 fish outlets available throughout the country at subsidized prices, increasing the availability of affordable basic foodstuffs and offering citizens a wider range of choices during Ramadan.
Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani explained that the second component is the Ramadan social program, a direct government intervention comprising the distribution of free food to 25,000 families and cash transfers to approximately 143,000 families. He affirmed that the total cost of this operation amounts to 13.6 billion ouguiyas and is financed by the state budget. This approach reflects the government’s attention to vulnerable groups and its commitment to strengthening social solidarity values during the holy month.
His Excellency expressed his satisfaction with the level of preparation for implementing the government’s vision, ensuring that citizens can fast comfortably during this blessed month. He affirmed that this vision had been realized before Ramadan’s arrival.
