CENI, EU Sign MoU

On 2 February, in Nouakchott, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the European Union (EU), as the funding body, in partnership with the European Center for Support of Electoral Processes (ECES), to launch a project aimed at building the capacities of national institutions overseeing elections in Mauritania.

The project is part of the implementation of the CENI’s strategic plan for the period 2025-2027, which aims to strengthen the legal framework for elections, improve planning methods, consolidate the administrative capacities and professional skills of staff, and integrate modern technologies into electoral work, thus contributing to the establishment of a professional electoral system capable of organizing elections with transparency and integrity, and enjoying the confidence of the various electoral partners.

The constitutional institutions involved in the electoral process, particularly the Constitutional Council, the Press and Broadcasting High Authority, and the National Human Rights Commission, should also benefit from this project.
