Minister of Energy and Oil: The 72-Megawatt Plant is a Practical Embodiment of the President’s Pledges to Strengthen Electrical Security

The Minister of Energy and Oil, Mr. Mohamed Ould Khaled, made a field visit today, Monday, to the construction site of the new 72-megawatt power plant in Nouakchott. This visit was part of the direct follow-up on the implementation of strategic projects aimed at enhancing the production capacities of the national electricity system.
During this visit, the Minister emphasized that this project is at the heart of the electoral program of His Excellency the President, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, who has made improving access to electricity, ensuring its continuity, and maintaining its quality a key pillar for economic and social development, as well as a governmental priority that cannot be postponed.
The Minister explained that the new plant will contribute, once it becomes operational, to increasing the production capacity of the electricity system on the interconnected grid, improving current stability, and significantly reducing outages, especially during peak times. This represents a practical response to the accumulated challenges that the sector has faced over the decades.
