Human Rights Commissioner heads to Geneva

The Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society, Mr. Sid’ Ahmed Eli Benane, left Nouakchott this morning, Monday, heading to Geneva to participate in the fifty-first session of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review.
During this session the Commissioner will present the national report of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania related to the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review mechanism.
The Universal Periodic Review constitutes a mechanism that allows the Human Rights Council to periodically review the extent to which United Nations member states fulfill their commitments and obligations in the field of human rights.
