The Algerian national team secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), hosted by Morocco, after defeating their Congolese counterpart 1-0 last night, Tuesday, at the ‘Moulay Hassan’ Stadium in the Moroccan capital, Rabat.
Al-Khodr’s goal was scored by Adel Boulbina with a shot from inside the penalty area, beating Congolese goalkeeper Lionel Mbassi in the 119th minute of the match, during the first extra time period, after the two regular halves ended in a goalless draw.
Al-Khudr reached the round of 16 through three consecutive victories, topping their group with nine points, while the Cheetahs reached the same stage with seven points through two wins and a draw.
With this win, the Greens will face Nigeria (the Super Eagles) in the quarter-finals on Saturday, January 10.
