President of Republic Inaugurates Industrial Complex for Processing Small Pelagic Fish

On 30 December, in Nouadhibou, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, inaugurated a large industrial complex belonging to the “ATAC SEAFOODS SA” company in El Bountiya area, as part of the activities commemorating the 65th anniversary of National Independence Day.

The President of the Republic attended a technical presentation on the components of this industrial complex, its production capacity, its storage capacity, its contribution to strengthening the performance of the small-scale fishing sector, and the employment opportunities it will offer, before cutting the symbolic ribbon and unveiling the plaque, thus marking the start of this important industrial facility’s operation.

This industrial complex, built with an investment of US$25 million, will enable the processing and valorization of small pelagic fish (mackerel, sardines, horse mackerel) with an initial focus on export in accordance with international standards.

The daily processing capacity of this plant, which provides 300 direct jobs and 600 indirect jobs, is 500 tons, with a storage capacity of up to 12,000 tons.

This project, which covers an area of 36,000 square meters, is part of the practical implementation of the government’s priorities in terms of modernizing fishing sector infrastructure, supporting small-scale and coastal fishing activities, attracting high-impact investments, and creating an integrated and competitive local value chain.

In parallel with the inauguration of this industrial complex, the foundation stone was laid for a second promising component within the complex, namely a sardine canning factory with a production capacity of 500,000 cans per day, reinforcing the focus on creating an integrated local value chain.
