On the sidelines of the international meeting on refugees held in Geneva from 15 to 17 December, Ms. Houda Babah, Minister of Education and Reform of Education System, met with Ms. Margarita Focas Licht, Director of Partnerships at the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).
The meeting focused on the Global Partnership for Education’s support for priority reforms, the partnership charter, and the challenges related to the education of refugee children.
At the beginning of the meeting, the minister reaffirmed the Mauritanian government’s commitment to the gradual integration of refugee children into the national education system, in accordance with a clear roadmap.
She expressed her thanks and gratitude to the Global Partnership for Education for extending existing funding and for the Partnership’s Board of Directors approving new funding of US$17.53 million to support Mauritania’s efforts to improve the quality of education and strengthen learning outcomes.
For her part, Ms. Margarita Focas Licht emphasized that education is an essential pillar of economic growth and social stability, and that investment in this area is no longer an option limited to the education sector alone, but has become a strategic investment in security and sustainable development.
In this context, she presented examples of countries that have succeeded in establishing effective partnerships between the public and private sectors, where private companies and economic institutions have contributed to the financing and support of public education, recognizing its central role in training skilled human capital, strengthening stability, and creating an environment conducive to investment and sustainable economic growth.
