President of the Republic before the officials of Oualata: We are working on Adopting Targeted Projects that meet the Aspirations of the Residents of the Moughataa.

His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, explained that the government pays special attention to the development of the Oualata moughataa, through the adoption and implementation of a set of targeted and concrete projects addressing the concerns and aspirations of the residents of this department.His Excellency the President of the Republic recalled, during his intervention at a meeting held this Friday evening with the executives and notables of this moughataa, the importance of the city of Oualata, considered one of the historic cities of the country and the oldest and most prestigious in the beautiful wilaya of Hodh Chargui.

His Excellency the President of the Republic reviewed some of the achievements accomplished for the moughataa of Oualata and the projects planned for it, highlighting that education in this department has seen a notable improvement, increasing the number of teachers from 40 in 2019 to 105 in 2025, and the regular provision of meals in 66 school canteens, benefiting 5,752 students.He added that among the achievements for this moughataa are the construction and equipping of two health centers, that 247 families have benefited from universal health insurance and 80 children from the malnutrition control program, as well as the supply of drinking water to the town of Oualata from Lake Dhar, the drilling of 10 artesian wells, and the establishment of 7 water distribution networks in Oualata and the villages of “Barbara,” “Medroum Ahl Abeidi,” and “Mreihim 2”.

 

His Excellency the President of the Republic mentioned that among the achievements from which the moughataa of Oualata has benefited are four medium voltage networks each 500 meters long, the construction of low voltage electrical networks 3.5 km in length in the town of Oualata, and the installation of an electric generator with a capacity of 250 kilovolts.His Excellency emphasized the need to connect the town of Oualata to the national road network, due to its importance and the fact that it is the only moughataa in the wilaya that remains outside the road network, indicating that a study is currently underway concerning this road, which should pass through as many localities in the department as possible, and that after the study is completed, funding for its construction will be sought.

His Excellency the President of the Republic recalled the launch of the Oualata radio station, which is the second radio station in the ancient cities, and the implementation of a component within the framework of the heritage cities festival in favor of this town, which cost 3 billion and 600 million old ouguiyas, benefiting 659 families with regular cash transfers totaling 116 million old ouguiyas, and 739 families with seasonal cash transfers aimed at supporting the resilience of vulnerable families, the creation of 72 grain banks and their supply with 384 tons of grain, and the financing of more than 140 income-generating activities.

He stated that what has been accomplished so far in favor of the moughataa of Oualata represents an important milestone in a development process that we are all striving to develop and strengthen so that it lives up to the ambition we wish to achieve for this historic city.

His Excellency the President of the Republic presented the component of the moughataa of Oualata in the local development emergency program, under which the construction of a water reservoir, the equipment of two artesian wells, the electrification of two localities, the construction or restoration of sand dams, the distribution of 10 km of fencing, the construction of 87 classrooms, 5 health centers, the acquisition of an ambulance, and the drilling of 12 artesian wells will take place. His Excellency added that the moughataa’s share in the emergency program also includes the drilling of pastoral wells and the provision of multiple aids in the areas of support for forage crop projects, financing of small businesses, and granting of financial subsidies to young people, in addition to interventions through training programs in the areas of management, access to employment and professional trades, and voluntary work.

His Excellency emphasized the need to intensify efforts and the contribution of everyone to achieve the overall and balanced development of the Oualata moughataa, noting that this meeting aims to exchange views and address all issues related to the moughataa in order to identify its development needs and incorporate them into development programs and plans that will be launched in the future.At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency the President of the Republic welcomed the presence of political and economic actors, elected officials, and officials, thanking the residents of the Oualata moughataa for their significant contribution to the reception organized yesterday in the capital of the wilaya, in which they played a major role despite the difficulty of the road connecting their town to Néma.

The mayor of the commune of Oualata, Mr. Sidaty Ould Jih, praised, in a speech at the beginning of the meeting, the achievements accomplished in favor of the moughataa, which have covered various vital areas related to the citizens’ lives.He expressed his sincere thanks, on behalf of the residents, to His Excellency the President of the Republic for these achievements and for the attention he pays to the moughataa of Oualata, emphasizing that the visit of the President of the Republic instilled in them a spirit of hope and pride for this beloved homeland. The meeting was then opened to the interventions of the notables and officials of this moughataa, who mainly praised the accomplishments achieved and expressed their aspirations for comprehensive development of this department by identifying the problems and challenges posed, and requesting the implementation of development projects that meet the ambitions and hopes of the citizens of this moughataa.
