Amourj (Hodh Charghi), November 2, 2025 (AMI) – The President of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), Mr. El Bekaye Abdel Malek, chaired a consultative meeting on Friday morning (October 31, 2025) in Amourj. Administrative and security authorities were present, as well as all civil society actors from the Amourj region, in addition to farmer and herder unions, representatives of women’s unions and cooperatives, parents’ associations, foreign communities, refugees and migrants, youth associations and unions, and activist organizations.
During the meeting, the chairman of the commission gave a detailed presentation on the role and responsibilities of the commission as a constitutional advisory body responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights. He emphasized that the main objective of this consultation was to have, in collaboration with stakeholders and key actors on the ground, a comprehensive understanding of the human rights situation in the country. This approach would allow the Commission to identify problems and deficiencies of all kinds and work to address them in cooperation with the executive and other national and international partners.
Mr. El Bekaye Abdel Malek reminded everyone of the need for concerted efforts to strengthen unity and social cohesion, particularly in light of the current developments in the regional situation. After presenting the vision and the new approach of the Commission, based on the decentralization of human rights, the president gave the floor to the participants.
They unanimously recognized the importance of this initiative and the hopes it raises, particularly given the challenges facing the wilaya, notably the border moughataas, due to the influx of refugees and returnees from neighboring Mali, in a fragile security context.
The participants then presented, in detail, their views on the problems and challenges they face, particularly those related to citizens’ economic and social rights, and put forward several proposals to address them sustainably.
The governor and the mayor of the moughataa responded to the participants’ comments and emphasized the urgency of finding solutions, particularly regarding the issue of refugees and returnees from Mali, who are putting significant pressure on all services.
At the end of the consultative meeting, the president of the CNDH expressed his satisfaction with the level of discussion, stating that all issues raised would be brought to the attention of the competent authorities and followed up with higher bodies to find solutions.
He emphasized that the commission would strive to bring its services closer to citizens by opening regional offices and contact points throughout the province as soon as possible.
