On 14 October, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, received the credentials of His Excellency Mr. Erik Nyindu Kibambe, in his capacity as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
After the ceremony to present the credentials, His Excellency the President of the Republic granted an audience to the Congolese diplomat, in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad.
At the end of the meeting, the diplomat made the following statement: “We were received by His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
It had been 22 years since the DRC had had an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Mauritania. This is therefore a historic and significant moment, born of the will of our two Heads of State—His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and His Excellency President Felix Tshisekedi—who have decided to restore strong ties and elevate our relations to the level of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
I had the honor of presenting my credentials to His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, who graciously accepted them and welcomed me, wishing me every success in my mission.
President El Ghazouani also had very strong words of support for the Congolese people, reaffirming his commitment to working toward restoring peace in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a country that has unfortunately been facing a security crisis for several decades.
As he had already expressed to his counterpart and brother, President Felix Tshisekedi, during his visit in 2024, President El Ghazouani reiterated today his willingness to continue supporting the Congo so that peace can reign and development can fully benefit the Congolese people.
Our mission is to strengthen relations between our two countries and ensure that the DRC and Mauritania can work together on all development, peace, and environmental preservation agendas, both in Africa and around the world.
