The Minister of Economic Affairs and Promotion of Productive Sector, Ousmane Mamoudou Kane, signed Tuesday in Nouakchott an exchange of documents with His Excellency Mr. Ihara Norio, Japanese Ambassador to Mauritania, regarding a grant in the framework of the food assistance program scheduled in the Japanese financial year 2021.
The total amount of this grant amounts to three hundred million Japanese yen, equivalent to about one hundred and seventy million Ouguiyas (MRU).
The grant will be directed to the acquisition of some necessary products and services in order to implement the special food program which was agreed upon between Japan and Mauritania.
The minister said that this support will be allocated to restructure the strategic stock of the Food Security Commission, stabilize prices at the national market level and, finance several income-generating projects for the benefit of vulnerable classes.
He pointed out that this annual support, which has increased significantly this year, heralds promising bilateral cooperation between the two countries, praising the strong ties between the two countries.
On his part, the Japanese Ambassador declared that the Japanese government decided exceptionally this year exceptionally, to double its funding to Mauritania to support the economic recovery in the country of the country, which has suffered significantly from the Covid-19 repercussions.
