On 4 September, in Nouakchott, Mr. Sidi Yahya Ould Cheikhna Ould Lemrabott, the Minister of Islamic Affairs and Original Education, held a meeting with Mr. Jihad Madi, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Migrants, and his accompanying delegation.
The meeting focused on the country’s efforts in the field of human rights and the protection of migrants’ rights.
During the meeting, the minister emphasized the central role of the Islamic Affairs sector in strengthening social awareness and protecting human rights as stipulated in the Holy Quran 14 centuries ago.
He explained that Mauritania implements its national migration laws in accordance with religion and international human rights conventions, emphasizing its commitment to protecting migrants and respecting their rights and dignity.
He added that His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, pays particular attention to this issue, which the government strives to honor.
For his part, UN envoy Mr. Jihad Madi expressed his admiration for the sector’s enlightened vision on human rights and the protection of migrants.
