African Parliament discusses Artificial Intelligence and holds an Extended Meeting with the South African Parliament

The African Parliament has set aside a day of its meetings in Midrand, South Africa, to discuss key issues in the field of artificial intelligence and digital sovereignty in Africa.
The experts participating in this meeting called for the establishment of a continental framework based on ethics, inclusiveness, and technological sovereignty, emphasizing the need to establish a framework that guarantees the protection of fundamental rights, especially in sensitive sectors such as health, education, and funding.
In her speech on the occasion, the First Vice-President of the African Parliament, Ms. Fatima Habib, praised the exemplary cooperation between the African Parliament and the South African one, calling for the promotion of women’s and youth representation in various African institutions and bodies.
In this regard, she highlighted the achievements made by Mauritanian women thanks to the policies pursued by the Mauritanian government in implementation of the directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, noting that these policies and directives have enabled Mauritanian women to assume leadership positions and strengthen their presence in parliament.
It’s worth noting that the National Assembly is represented in the African Parliament by five deputies, who are, in addition to the First Deputy Speaker of the African Parliament, Ms. Fatima Habib, Zeine El-Abidine Ahmed El-Hadi, Umayya Sayed Abdelkader, Mr. Abdessalam Horma, and Deputy Sow Moussa Demba.
