Mauritania condemns Israeli Knesset Approval of Bill Imposing Israeli Sovereignty over Occupied West Bank

Nouakchott

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania has condemned the Israeli Knesset’s approval of a bill imposing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank, stressing that this constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and the resolutions of the Security Council and the United Nations General Assembly.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, a copy of which was obtained by the Mauritanian News Agency, it added that such a unilateral move constitutes an unjustified escalation, undermines the chances for peace, and poses a serious threat to the foundations of the two-state solution. It also contradicts the will of the international community, which affirms the need to establish an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement reiterated Mauritania’s unwavering support for the struggle of the brotherly Palestinian people and called on the international community and regional and international organizations to shoulder their legal and moral responsibilities to protect the Palestinian people.
