The agreement stipulates that the price of a ton of raw rice shall be set at 14,000 new ouguiyas, and the price of a ton of white rice shall be set at 28,000 new ouguiyas.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty explained that the irrigated sector in our country has seen steady improvement in recent years, reflected in an increase in cultivated areas, which has contributed to increased agricultural production and improved competitiveness.
He emphasized the effectiveness of the measures taken by the sector, which included the maintenance of water axes, support for inputs, and pest control, with a cultivated area of 52,000 hectares and a production rate of 6 tons per hectare.
He added that based on these results, and in accordance with the government’s latest guidelines, a meeting was organized with the National Federation of Agriculture to evaluate this campaign and make a decision to set prices for raw rice and white rice, which will have a positive impact on producers and consumers. This is in line with the government’s policy of improving the living conditions of the population by providing basic commodities at affordable prices.
He reiterated the government’s determination to continue supporting and accompanying farmers in order to achieve food sovereignty.
For their part, the president of the National Union of Mauritanian Employers, Mr. Mohamed Zeine El Abidine Ould Cheikh Ahmed, and the president of the National Federation of Agriculture, Mr. Dia Adama Oumar, praised this initiative and the partnership between their two organizations and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty.
The president of the National Union of Mauritanian Employers considered this agreement a first step towards price stabilization, calling on citizens to consume national products, which would encourage farmers and push the sector towards a better future.
