Minister of Economy receives Belgian Candidate for High Commissioner for Refugees

The minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Sid’ Ahmed Ould Bouh, received on Tuesday, on the sidelines of the Seville Forum, Ms. Nicole Moore, the Belgian candidate for the post of High Commissioner of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

During the meeting, the Minister expressed Mauritania’s support for UNHCR’s efforts to address the challenges of displacement and asylum, noting the humanitarian role the country plays in hosting refugees, especially from neighboring countries.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening the partnership with UNHCR to mobilize international support to enhance Mauritania’s ability to respond sustainably to the growing needs of refugees and host communities.

In response to the candidate’s request for support, the Minister expressed his country’s interest in studying the issue.

For her part, Ms. Nicole Moore praised Mauritania’s efforts in this field, expressing her desire to strengthen cooperation with Nouakchott, if she is elected to this high UN position.
