The Prime Minister is discussing with the CEO of ‘Aura Energy’ the Project for Exploiting Uranium in the Northwest of the Country.

The Prime Minister, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Diay, received today, Monday in Nouakchott, Mr. Philippe Mitchell, President of the Australian company ‘Aura Energy’, which works on uranium extraction in the northwest of the country. The company president presented an overview of the project’s progress and the level of funding mobilization necessary for its execution. The Prime Minister praised the efforts made by Aura Energy and its partners, reiterating the commitment of the Mauritanian government to its new strategy for managing mining permits, which is based on strict adherence to deadlines and sustainable valuation of the country’s natural resources. The meeting is part of the close monitoring of major structural projects launched by the government, in implementation of the program of His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, aimed at enhancing investment, creating permanent job opportunities, and strengthening national sovereignty in the fields of energy and industry. Following the meeting, Mr. Philippe Mitchell expressed his happiness in a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency about meeting the Prime Minister, adding that he provided him with a presentation on the ‘Aura Energy’ project for uranium extraction in the northwest of the country.
He explained that the project will produce about one million tons of uranium annually, equating to 160 million dollars in annual income, noting that the project’s implementation will require 300 million dollars, and the installation of the factory and works will need about a thousand people. He stated that he discussed with the Prime Minister the plan to implement this important project for the country, expressing his hope that execution work will begin at the start of next year. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Minerals and Industry, Mr. Thiam Tidjani, and the Chief of Staff for the Prime Minister, Mr. Sheikh Ould Zeidane.
