The Minister of Culture, Arts, Communication and Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesman, Mr. El Housseine Ould Medou, received in Nouakchott on Monday a delegation from Reporters Sans Frontières (RSF), currently visiting Mauritania, led by Thibaut Bruttin, the organization’s Director General.
The Minister briefed the visiting delegation on the government’s efforts to develop and professionalize the press sector, starting with the decision by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to set up a high commission to reform the sector.
The Minister noted that the government has begun to implement the recommendations of this commission, which has resulted in a series of legal and institutional reforms, leading to Mauritania’s accession to the Initiative for Information and Democracy.
For his part, the Director General of Reporters Without Borders recalled the efforts made by his organization to protect journalists and media professionals, developing freedom of expression worldwide.
