Ministry of Economy: Formation of a Committee to Investigate Allegations of Harmful Behaviors to the Investment Environment

The Ministry of Economy and Finance issued a statement announcing the formation of a committee to investigate the facts and circumstances surrounding a recent case. The case involves an investor who decided to terminate their investments in the country, citing harassment, violations of governance rules, non-compliance with the requirements for a favorable investment environment, and actions considered illegal by the law.

This committee is tasked with gathering all relevant information and will submit its findings by April 11, 2025. The ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to combating corruption and promoting transparency to protect the country’s reputation and ensure an attractive investment climate.

Here is the statement:

“Following the widespread circulation on some social media platforms since Saturday, April 5, 2025, of posts published by a foreign investor announcing her decision to halt her investment in our country—citing, among other reasons, what she described as harassment, conduct inconsistent with principles of good governance and the requirements of an attractive investment environment, as well as actions criminalized by law—the Ministry of Economy and Finance has established a fact-finding committee to investigate all the circumstances surrounding this matter. The committee is tasked with reviewing how both national and foreign investors are supported in the development of their projects, in a way that ensures profitability for them and contributes to development and job creation in our country.

The committee has been mandated to submit its report by April 11 at the latest. Its findings will be shared with the public in full transparency, and any necessary firm and decisive actions will be taken to safeguard the country’s investment appeal and to reflect the government’s unwavering approach to fighting corruption and cleansing public affairs of all forms of misconduct and malpractice.

There will be zero tolerance for any form of corruption, negligence, or conduct that undermines the reputation of the country and ongoing efforts to enhance its attractiveness to investors”.
