Mauritania participates in Third World Summit on Disability in Berlin

A delegation from Mauritania, headed by the Minister of Social Work, Childhood and Family, Ms. Safia Mint N’tahah, participated in the work of the Third World Summit on Disability (GDS 2025), which kicked off on Wednesday in Berlin, the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany, in the presence of King Abdullah II of Jordan and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The summit, coorganized by the governments of Jordan, Germany and the International Disability Alliance, aims to redouble advocacy efforts for people with disabilities and push countries and organizations to commit to new measures to empower people with disabilities.

The Minister participated in a meeting on the sidelines of the summit, which included her Guinean counterpart, and representatives of technical and financial partners, during which she touched on Mauritania‘s experience in empowering persons with disabilities with their rights, listing the measures and measures taken by the government to support and care for them, including regular cash transfers.

Raising the budget for the inclusion of persons with disabilities to 1.5% of the budget by 2030, expanding the base of beneficiaries of health insurance, involving people with disabilities in the development of the city of Nouakchott through a specialized national committee, integrating them into various social protection programs, preparing a national strategy to promote the rights of persons with disabilities, and providing annual support to the National Federation of Mauritanian Associations of Persons with Disabilities.

The Mauritanian delegation includes officials from the social work, childhood, family, economy and finance sectors, as well as the President of the Mauritanian Federation of National Associations of Persons with Disabilities, other persons with disabilities in our country, and a representative of the Mauritanian Embassy in Berlin.
