National Human Rights Commission Chairman praises Efforts of International Partners

Nouakchott

The outgoing Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Bouhbeini, expressed his satisfaction with Mauritania’s efforts to protect and promote human rights, noting that every time progress is achieved in the field of human rights, a firm political will emerges along with laws and mechanisms that constitute the most important and reassuring element for the promotion and protection of human rights.

This came in a speech by the President of the National Human Rights Commission, during a ceremony organized by the Commission yesterday evening in Nouakchott, for its international partners (USA, UK, EU, Spain, Germany, France, Canada, Belgium and Switzerland), who accompanied the Commission’s convoys inside the country over the past six years, expressing his pride and honor for their presence at this ceremony.

He also expressed his thanks and gratitude to the ambassadors who facilitated the NHRC’s missions to the European Parliament and US authorities in Washington, as well as the meetings of its delegations in London, Paris and Geneva, which allowed for enhanced dialogue and advocacy on human rights priorities, consolidating a shared commitment to the universal values of justice and dignity.

Most of the common goals have been achieved, but the struggle for human rights remains ongoing and global.

He welcomed the presence of the ambassadors of Senegal, Qatar, Mali and  Morocco  who have been partners of the organization over the past years.
