On Wednesday in Bangui, the Chief of Staff of the United Nations Mission in Central Africa (MINISCA), Mr. René Onana, decorated the Mauritanian Gendarmerie unit serving in the peacekeeping force in the Central African Republic on behalf of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Ms. Valentine Rugwabiza, and Head of MINISCA.
After singing the national anthems of Mauritania, Central Africa and the United Nations, the MINUSCA Chief of Staff inspected the Mauritanian gendarmerie unit.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Commander of the Mauritanian Gendarmerie Peacekeeping Unit, Major Boubacar Niang, said that this award comes in recognition of the leading role played by the unit with professionalism and discipline in peacekeeping in the Central African Republic.
Assistant Police Component Leader in Bangui and the guest of honor, René Onana, Chief of Staff of the UN Mission, praised the role played by the unit and the efforts it exerted during the performance of its mission.
