The Embassy of India in Mauritania held a reception in Nouakchott on Sunday evening to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the National Day of the Republic of India.
The government was represented by the Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Cheikh Abdallah Ould Boye, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad; the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad; and the Ambassador and Director General of the Bilateral Cooperation Directorate of the same Ministry.
Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Mr. Naresh Kumar, Indian Ambassador to Mauritania, said that 2024 was a very special and important year in the history of Mauritanian-Indian diplomatic relations, as India’s first resident ambassador was appointed to Mauritania.
He noted that the upward trajectory of bilateral relations culminated in the historic first visit of the President of the country last October, as part of the strengthening of Indo-Mauritanian bilateral communication and the importance that India attaches to its relations with Mauritania, noting that this visit took place at a critical juncture marked by Mauritania’s presidency of the African Union, which also reflects India’s orientation and focus on developing its relations with Africa.
The ceremony was attended by the heads of the Ministry’s departments of honor and protocol, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Mauritania, and national figures.
