The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Mohamed Ould Khaled, and the Moroccan Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Mrs. Leila Benali, signed a memorandum of understanding today in Rabat to develop a partnership in the electricity and renewable energy sectors between Mauritania and Morocco.
This agreement represents a pivotal step in accelerating cooperation between Mauritania and Morocco in the fields of electricity and renewable energy. It includes implementing projects to supply villages with electricity, promoting clean energy initiatives, and working on standardizing electrical systems between the two countries.
The cooperation also involves exchanging expertise, technologies, and best practices in network management and electrical safety, as well as enhancing human capacities through joint training programs.
The memorandum of understanding aims to contribute to achieving energy security, diversifying energy sources, and studying the implementation of an electrical interconnection project to enhance network stability and improve electricity supply.
During the meeting, major strategic projects were discussed, such as the gas pipeline project linking Morocco and Nigeria and new energy projects like green hydrogen.
Both parties emphasized that the relations between the two brotherly countries are based on a shared vision focused on sustainable development and reflect a common will to enhance Africa’s position as a continent with significant potential for growth and prosperity.
The working visit by the Minister of Energy and Petroleum to Morocco is part of ongoing consultation and coordination between Mauritania and Morocco, aimed at strengthening and developing bilateral relations to meet the aspirations of both countries.
This visit also fulfills the high directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, and His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco.
