Last night, the last unit of the eighth peacekeeping battalion of the national army participating in UN peacekeeping operations in the Central African Republic returned to the homeland from the city of Bambari, where it had been stationed for a year under the umbrella of the United Nations as part of the United Nations peacekeeping operations in this brotherly African country.
This last unit of the eighth peacekeeping battalion was received at Nouakchott International Airport “Oumtounsi”, by the Minister of Defence, Retirees and Children of Martyrs Affairs, Hanana Ould Sidi, accompanied by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armies, Major General Mohamed Vall Rais.
Upon receiving the members of the last group of the eighth peacekeeping battalion, the Minister of Defense expressed the thanks and congratulations of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, to all members of this battalion and other battalions and units of the national army and gendarmerie that worked abroad within the United Nations peacekeeping operations for the valuable efforts they have made in this brotherly African country and for their discipline and good behavior while carrying out the tasks entrusted to them to the fullest.
He said that this battalion, like its predecessors from the army and gendarmerie, was witnessed by all partners with good behavior, discipline and full responsibility and high professionalism while performing the noble tasks entrusted to it in the best way within the framework of the United Nations peacekeeping force.
Colonel Sidi Mohamed Ould Hadid, director of the Communication and Public Relations Department at the General Staff of the Armies, said the National Army General Staff Command, which bid farewell to the ninth battalion a few days ago, celebrates today the completion of the return of all members of the eighth peacekeeping battalion led by Colonel Sidi Ould Ahmed Eideh, coming from the city of Bambari in the Central African Republic.
He added that the participation of the national army and gendarmerie since 2015 in the UN peacekeeping operations in the Central African Republic has won the admiration of all partners, especially the local authorities, the United Nations and the residents of the areas that have entrusted their protection to the battalions and units of the national army and gendarmerie, who found in officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers and gendarmes, Mauritanian men and women, the best help for them in this special circumstance that this brotherly African country has been exposed to for some time.
The success of these units in their noble tasks, which are at the heart of the tasks of the national army, confirms the effectiveness and success of the national security approach approved by the country’s highest authorities some time ago, he said.
