Defense Minister bids Farewell to the 16th Unit of the National Gendarmerie Heading to the Central African Republic

The 16th unit of the National Gendarmerie, the eighth to the city of Bria in the Central African Republic, left the country on Tuesday at dawn to participate like its predecessors under the umbrella of the United Nations as part of the UN peacekeeping forces in this brotherly African country.

 

The 16th unit of the National Gendarmerie participating in the UN Peacekeeping Forces and the 8th in the city of Bria, Central African Republic, was bid farewell upon its departure at Nouakchott International Airport ‘Oum tounsy’ by the Minister of Defense, Pensioners’ Affairs and Children of Martyrs, Mr. Hanena Ould Sidi, accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the National Gendarmerie, Major General Ahmed Mahmoud Ould Taya.

This unit, which will succeed its predecessor that returned to the national territory on Monday, consists of 180 personnel divided into a command element, a logistics platoon, four operational platoons and medical staff, equipped with all the necessary supplies to carry out the tasks assigned to it by the United Nations.

This unit, like its predecessors from the National Gendarmerie Sector, has received intensive training over the past months on its new tasks, namely UN policing operations, protection of persons and property, securing and protecting the premises of UN bodies, government headquarters and dignitaries of the host country, responding to requests for relief, humanitarian aid and humanitarian law in a troubled country.

 

Major Mohamed Ould El Hafez Ould Mahmoud, head of the Studies and Public Relations Office of the National Gendarmerie Staff Command, on the sidelines of the farewell ceremony of the unit, affirmed the full confidence of the Gendarmerie Staff Command in the ability of all members of this batch to play the roles entrusted to them in their noble tasks as ambassadors of their homeland to the United Nations.

He called on the members of this unit to preserve the important and honorable gains made by the previous units, and to exert precious efforts to represent the country in the best representation in this international mission

He expressed Mauritania’s pride in general and the national gendarmerie in particular, and his pride in the gains obtained by the elements of the former units, as witnessed by United Nations experts and all partners, which clearly reflected their ability and keenness to continue to excel in this noble mission.

The head of the Studies and Public Relations Office warned the concerned officers, non-commissioned officers and gendarmes on the importance of solidarity, sacrifice and teamwork.

The farewell ceremony of this unit was attended by a number of commanding officers, offices and directorates of the National Gendarmerie Staff.
