President of Republic Performs Friday Prayer at Chinguitty’s Old Mosque

On 13 December, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, performed the Friday prayer at the old mosque in the town of Chinguitty, where he launched the 13th edition of the “Mada’in Tourath” Festival, early this morning.

After His Excellency entered the mosque and performed the “Tahiyatoul Mesjid,” the second call to prayer was launched. The prayer was led by Cheikh Bah Ould Ahmed Mahmoud, Imam of the Chinguitty Mosque. In his two sermons, he praised Allah and then urged people to fear Him. He explained what piety is, advised everyone to repent, desired what Allah has to offer, and warned against sin. He concluded by praying for the country and the people.

At the end of the prayer, the President of the Republic listened to a speech by Sheikh Mohamed Mokhtar Ould M’ballah, in which he spoke of the human being and his cycle between angel and animal and between good and evil, concluding with the reforms for which Allah Almighty sent the prophets to accomplish, and this, from our father Adam, Peace be upon him, to our master and Prophet Mohamed, (PBUH), before concluding with administrative and financial corruption and how Islam tackled them, detailing the advice of the Prophet and his successors in this regard.

The President of the Republic then oversaw the launch of the 13th edition of a competition organized by the Ministry of Culture, Arts, Communication? and Relations with Parliament in cooperation with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Original Education, focusing on the Holy Koran and its sciences, Hadith, jurisprudence, and the biography of the Prophet, as well as the Arabic language and its sciences, in the outer courtyard of the old Chinguitty mosque.

A team from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, including imams of the old mosques of the four towns, formed the competition jury, reviewed the participants, and listened to explanations from the competition officials.

The Chinguitty mosque, which is considered a cultural landmark in the country, was founded in its current location in 660 AH.
