The President of the Republic oversees the Launch of the 13th Edition of the Mada’in Heritage Festival in Chinguetti

His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, honored on Friday morning in the historic city of Chinguetti the launch of the thirteenth edition of the Madain Heritage Festival.
This festival, organized under the slogan: “Madain Heritage Festival… A convoy for the development of our ancient cities”, with its diversity of activities that meet the interests of the residents of the region, as it includes basic components: developmental, scientific and artistic, and a variety of cultural, sports and recreational activities.
The results of the current edition of this festival will be more influential than its predecessors on the local development path of the city, both in terms of improving the level of basic services and in terms of implementing development projects, which contributes to strengthening the economic cycle, creating new job opportunities, and activating trade exchanges within the city and with its external surroundings, which the Chinguetti-Atar road, under construction, will contribute to strengthening these exchanges.
The development component that will be implemented within the framework of the festival will enable improving the performance of basic services in the city of Chinguetti through the construction and restoration of educational facilities, enhancing the performance of health facilities, increasing the capacity of the water and electricity networks, building sports and cultural facilities, financing income-generating projects, carrying out interventions to enhance the performance of the agricultural sector and combat desertification, supporting tourism facilities, and restoring the headquarters of public facilities in the city, in addition to other interventions that affect multiple fields.
The Madayn al-Heitage festival is a valuable opportunity to lift Mauritania’s historic cities, which constitute a world heritage, from the folds of oblivion and neglect that they have suffered from for decades, through the development opportunities it provides and the accompanying activities organized during it, stabilizing the population in these cities and activating their economic resources.
In its latest editions, the festival adopted a development approach that focused on making a tangible development impact in these cities by adopting a package of development projects that focus on enhancing the performance of basic services, investing in infrastructure, creating income-generating projects aimed at creating job opportunities and stimulating local development, in addition to carrying out social interventions that include food and cash distributions that specifically target vulnerable classes in these cities.
The opening events took place in the presence of the Wali of Adrar, the leader of the Democratic Opposition Foundation, the Minister Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic, the Minister in charge of the Office of the President of the Republic, the two ministers advisors to the Presidency of the Republic, members of the government, the rest of the delegation accompanying the President of the Republic, the Governor of Chinguetti province, heads and representatives of political formations and some international bodies concerned with culture, heritage and science, members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of accredited bodies in Mauritania
