Opening of a Workshop to Ratify the Procedures Manual of the National Fund to Respond to Food and Nutrition Crises

Nouakchott

The Assistant Commissioner for Food Security Limam Ould Abdaou inaugurated, Thursday in Nouakchott, a workshop on the ratification of the National Food and Nutrition Crisis Response Fund (NFF) procedures manual.

The National Food and Nutrition Crisis Response Fund Procedures Manual is an essential tool that is not limited to managing the Fund only, but also constitutes one of the main pillars that guarantee the effectiveness of interventions carried out by the State and its partners in cases of food and nutrition crises, by providing an accurate frame of reference that allows the use of resources allocated to these crises transparently and efficiently.

The one-day workshop will be attended by representatives from several government sectors and a number of representatives of international partners working in Mauritania.

Speaking on the occasion, the Assistant Commissioner explained that this measure is an essential part of the ambitious strategy of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, aimed at developing a clear, coherent and sustainable policy for the management and financing of the response to the food and nutrition crises, a strategy that the government of His Excellency the Prime Minister, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Ajay, seeks to put into practice.

He stated that within the framework of this strategy, the national mechanism to respond to food and nutrition crises was established in 2021, with the aim of ensuring effective coordination between various governmental and non-governmental agencies, noting that this mechanism works to develop and implement well-studied annual plans to confront food and nutrition crises, which enhances our country’s ability to respond quickly and integrated to those crises in a timely manner.

For his part, the Deputy Resident Representative of the World Food Programme in Mauritania, Mr. Patrick Teixeira, stated that the National Food and Nutrition Response Fund Procedures Manual covers all activities planned in the National Response Plan, including food distribution, nutritional assistance and livelihood preservation, and defines rules, strict disbursement procedures and evaluation monitoring mechanisms.

He added that the guide will encourage increased mobilization of contributions from the government, technical and financial partners and non-governmental organizations, with the aim of ensuring a more effective, sustainable and resilient humanitarian response in Mauritania, stressing that the firm program stands by the Mauritanian government and works with it to combat food insecurity and strengthen the resilience of the most vulnerable communities.
