Minister of Foreign Affairs participates in the Ministerial Conference to Strengthen Humanitarian Response in Gaza

Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, participated Monday in Cairo, Egypt, in the Ministerial Conference to Strengthen the Humanitarian Response in Gaza.
In his speech on the occasion, the Minister explained that this meeting is being held in light of the most severe ordeal faced by the Palestinian people in their modern history, as Gaza Strip has been witnessing a genocidal war for more than 14 months, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 43,000 martyrs, mostly children, women and the elderly, and led to the systematic destruction of all the elements of life.
This brutal aggression has led to the forced displacement of more than 1.9 million Gazans, he said, noting that those who remain are living in extremely harsh humanitarian conditions, deprived of their most basic rights such as food, medicine and even drinking water.
The Minister called for urgent and effective international action to put an end to this brutal aggression and the suffering of our Palestinian brothers, emphasizing the vital role played by UNRWA in providing basic services to Palestinian refugees.
He called for mobilizing more international support to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, noting that the Islamic Republic of Mauritania announces on this occasion a financial contribution of 300,000 dollars to support urgent humanitarian efforts.
He added that Mauritania welcomes the ceasefire in Lebanon and calls for the immediate and full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701 and respect for Lebanese sovereignty, while emphasizing the need for an immediate end to the brutal massacres committed by the Israeli occupation in Gaza Strip.
