A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, headed by the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Ms. Messouda bint Baham Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, arrived yesterday in Baku, Azerbaijan, to participate in the preparations leading up to the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the Climate Summit, which will officially start on November 12.
Our country will participate in this global event by organizing a number of important activities and meetings through a special Mauritanian pavilion that will be inaugurated during the summit.
Among the most important topics on the agenda of the summit are the development of renewable energies to reduce the phenomenon of climate change, catalyzing large-scale financing to reduce the risks of the phenomenon, establishing an organizational mechanism to launch the Global Fund for Losses and Damages Caused by Climate Change to support and assist countries affected by natural disasters due to climate change, in addition to other technical topics.
The session will be attended by 198 delegations from member states of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change, as well as delegations from international and regional organizations, civil society organizations, and the private sector.
COP29 will address all of the most pressing and urgent climate-related issues and must make significant progress in order to keep the climate temperature within the two-degree limit.
To reach this ceiling, the international community must increase and raise ambitions to reduce carbon emissions, go further in climate change adaptation measures and mobilize the necessary funding.
