On 23 October, Mr. Sid Ahmed Ould Bouh, the Minister of Economy and Finance, and Mr. Mohamed Ould Khaled, the Minister of Energy and Oil, held a meeting with the World Bank team in charge of Energy, Transport, and Infrastructure, which included Franz Dries Gross, the Regional Director for Infrastructure, Michael Matra, the Director of the Capacity Pillar, Martin Larsen, Lead Expert in the Mining Sector, and Country Director Keiko Miwa, the Bank’s Representative in Mauritania.
During the meeting, which was part of the activities of our country’s delegation to the annual autumn meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund held in Washington from 21 to 26 October, the delegation reviewed the portfolio of energy and infrastructure projects being implemented in our country.
The two sides also discussed in detail the new African Development Bank and World Bank initiative to provide 300 million sub-Saharan Africans with access to electricity by 2030, to be launched in January 2025 at a conference in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Participants at the meeting also discussed a new project to support electricity and energy management and improve access through the BESS battery storage system. This system will monitor electricity use and increase plant efficiency through dual management of electricity and renewables.
