Mauritania participates in a Consultative and Coordination Meeting to Prepare for the Transition of the Presidency of the G 20 to South Africa

Mr. Tah Ahmed Mouloud, Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic, participated on behalf of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Chairman of the African Union, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, in a consultative and coordination meeting held from 9 to 12 October in Pretoria, the capital of the Republic of South Africa, to prepare for the transfer of the presidency of the Group of Twenty to South Africa at the end of this year.

The meeting discussed ways to coordinate African positions and identify priorities for South Africa’s presidency of the Group of Twenty, which will hold its first summit on African soil with the participation of the African Union, a full member of the group.

In a speech during the meeting, on behalf of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh EL Ghazouani, Chairman of the African Union, Mr. Tah Ould Ahmed congratulated South Africa on its choice to host the next summit of the Group of Twenty, noting the need to seize this summit to further defend the interests of the continent, especially with regard to the development of new mechanisms to review African debt and search for sustainable solutions.

The African delegation held working sessions and meetings with the South African Foreign Minister, a number of members of his cabinet, and African ambassadors in Pretoria to brief them on the level of cooperation and coordination between the Mauritanian presidency of the African Union and the Union Commission on the one hand, and partners in the Group of Twenty on the other.

Discussions during the Pretoria meeting also touched on issues related to financing for development, adaptation to climate change, the transition to clean energy, careful planning for the economic and social future of the African continent, and ensuring that the continent plays a pivotal and constructive role in managing global crises and challenges.
