Mauritania commemorates Arab Environment Day

Nouakchott

Mauritania on Monday commemorated Arab Environment Day, under the slogan “The importance of raising awareness for preserving the environment”.

The commemoration of this day was marked by the organization of a ceremony chaired by the Legal Advisor to the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Mr. Salaheddine Ould Habib, in which he explained that the slogan of the Arab Day for the Environment reflects the urgent need to work hard to change the behaviors that contribute to environmental degradation.

Such degradation jeopardized the balance of ecosystems and had negative impacts on the economy, food security, health and livelihoods of the population.

For his part, Mr. Mohamed Hacena Ould Neema, Head of the Department of Planning, Programming, Statistics and Program Follow-up at the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, said that the celebration of the Arab Environment Day is an opportunity to pause and reflect on the environmental challenges facing the Arab world, such as desertification, climate change and environmental pollution, which requires unifying efforts and enhancing environmental awareness among all society.
