Diplomatic Club mourns Former UNESCO Director-General

The Diplomatic Club has mourned Amadou Mahtar M’bow, former Director-General of UNESCO.

The club expressed sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased, the scientific community around the world and the brotherly Senegalese people.

 

This was stated in a statement:

“The Diplomatic Club received with great sadness the news that Mr. Amadou Mahtar Mbou, the first African teacher at Rousseau High School, former Senegalese Minister of Education, and the first African to be appointed Director-General of UNESCO, passed away today.

The great achievements that Mr. Amadou Mahtar M’bow achieved at the head of this organization (creation of a new global information system, publication of the public history of Africa, protection of historical sites and monuments in a large number of countries, etc.) will forever be associated with his name and etched in the collective memory of the international cultural community.

On this sad occasion, and in accordance with the will of God Almighty, the members of the Club extend their deepest condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased, to the scientific community around the world, and to the brotherly Senegalese people.

I ask Allah Almighty to bestow upon him His vast mercy and to grant him the rest of his paradise.
