President condoles Senegalese Counterpart on the death of former UNESCO Director-General Amadou Mahtar M’bow
HE President of the Republic Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani sent Tuesday a cable of condolences to HE President of the Republic of Senegal Bassirou Diomaye Faye on the death of Amadou Mahtar M’bow, former Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and a prominent figure in the field of culture and education at the African and international levels, HE President of the Republic Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani said.
The telegram reads as follows:
“Dear brother.
It is with great sadness and sorrow that I received the news of the death of Mr. Amadou Mahtar M’bow, former Director-General of UNESCO and a prominent figure in the field of culture and education at the African and international levels.
On this painful occasion, I would like to express to Your Excellency, on my personal behalf and on behalf of the Mauritanian people, my sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy on this great loss.
Throughout his life, the late Amadou Mahtar M’bow embodied a unique commitment to the advancement of education, science and culture, and worked tirelessly to bring people together and defend the values of justice, peace and development.
His illustrious career at the helm of UNESCO has left an indelible mark on this great institution and the world at large, and his valuable efforts have contributed to promoting intercultural dialogue and supporting developing countries.
His passing is a great loss not only to Senegal, but to Africa and the entire international community; his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
In these sad moments, I would like to assure Your Excellency, the family of the deceased, and the brotherly Senegalese people of my sincere sympathy and pray to the Almighty God to have mercy on the deceased and to grant him eternal rest.
