Mauritania receives Prince Talal International Award for Human Development

This year, the Mauritanian Oasis Development Project (P.D.D.O) received the Prince Talal International Award for Human Development, an award given annually to world-leading development projects.

The Mauritanian Oasis Development Project was nominated for this award by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.

The project won this $200,000 award out of eighty projects around the world in recognition of its significant achievements in local human development and poverty alleviation.

The coordinator of the project for the development and development of oases in Mauritania, Mohamedou Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, said in a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency on Tuesday that this project was selected among four international projects in Peru, Ecuador and Palestine, after evaluating a file that includes the outcome of five years of project work accompanied by annual audit reports.

He added that this victory confirms the important gains achieved by the project during the past five years in implementation of the high directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, in the field of food security and local development.

The project for the development and development of oases was selected to win this award during the twenty-fifth meeting of the Award Committee at its headquarters in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabic Arabia, on June 5, 2024, under the chairmanship of Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Chairman of the Arab Gulf Program for Development, Chairman of the Award Committee, and in the presence of members of the Committee representing the regions of the world, coinciding with World Environment Day 2023,

The total value of the Prince Talal International Award for Human Development is one million US dollars granted by the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND) to pioneering projects that have achieved a positive impact in local, international and regional communities.
