The fifth edition of the Japan-Arab Economic Forum, organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States and the Japanese Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economy, Trade and Industry, opened Wednesday morning in Tokyo, Japan.
Our country was represented by a delegation led by Mr. Mokhtar El Housseinou Lam, Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, and composed of Yahya Ould Ahmed El Waghef, Director General of the Mauritanian Fish Marketing Company, Ahmedou Saleck Beyah, Director General of Public-Private Partnerships at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Matchiane Mint Soueid Ahmed, Advisor to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Innovation and Fashion, Dia Amadou Bocar, Director of Deep-Sea and Coastal Fisheries at the Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, Abderrahmane Boudjema, Permanent Secretary of the Economic and Social Observatory of Fisheries at the Ministry of Fisheries, Maritime Economy and Fisheries, Directorate of Fisheries and Maritime Economy of Mauritania.
The forum aims to explore opportunities to strengthen economic cooperation between Japan and Arab countries.
In this context, an economic and trade conference was organized between the public and private sectors of the Arab and Japanese sides.
The ministerial conference will seek to deepen the policy discussion on issues of common interest such as energy security, renewable energy, emerging technologies and innovations such as artificial intelligence. It will also seek to explore new opportunities for economic cooperation between Japan and Arab countries.
The forum will include three workshops that will address the following themes: Expanding mutual investment (diversification of economic relations, cooperation and innovation), combating climate change (renewable energy, waste management), and new technologies and supply chain resilience (communication technology).
On the sidelines of the Forum, the Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy Mokhtar Al Housseinou Lam held a meeting with the President of Japan Tuna to discuss the relations between this company and the Ministry through the tuna fishing treaty signed between the two parties.
During the meeting, the minister called on the Japanese side to redouble efforts and expand investment to the processing and development of other pelagic fish varieties.
The General Manager of the Mauritanian Fish Marketing Company also held a meeting with some of the company’s Japanese customers in order to strengthen the relations between the two parties in order to serve the common interests of both parties
Mr. Ahmedou Saleck Beyah, Director General of the Public-Private Partnership, and Mrs. Matchiane Mint Soueid Ahmed, Advisor to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Innovation and Modernization of the Administration, held a meeting with some Japanese partners in the framework of partnership files in various fields, including new technologies and digitalization.
