Campaigning for the June 29, 2024 Presidential Election concludes

The electoral campaign leading up to the June 29, 2024 presidential election concluded today (June 27, 2024) at midnight across the national territory, as the country enters the electoral silence phase, with voting to begin at 7:00 am on Saturday morning.
Seven candidates are competing during this electoral campaign to obtain the largest possible number of votes expressed by the electorate, and they are, in the order of their receipt by the Constitutional Council, Messrs:
– Mohamed Cheikh El Ghazwani
– Mohamed Lamine El Murteji El Wafi.
– Hamadi Sidi Mokhtar Mohamed Abdi.
– Otouma Antoine Souleymane Soumare
– Mamadou Boukar Ba.
– El Eid Mohameden M’barek.
– Biram Dah Abeid.
A total of 1,939,342 voters are eligible to vote in the June 29 poll, of which 53 percent are women.
For fifteen days, candidates and their supporters competed in this campaign with various types of electoral propaganda through festivals, seminars, singing and speech evenings, slogans and posters in order to win the favor of the Mauritanian voter.
In this context, the Independent National Electoral Commission announced that all its regional and provincial committees and staff, at the level of administrative centers, and through the offices designated for Mauritanian communities abroad, are fully prepared and ready to proceed with the polling, organization and supervision.

The commission confirmed the completion of the arrival of electoral supplies to voting offices throughout the national territory, and the completion of the formation of the staff supervising this process.
The commission urged all its partners, including candidates and media outlets, to stop all activities and propaganda campaigns, and to abide by the electoral silence, starting at zero hours on Thursday/Friday night.
We note that the voting process will start on Saturday (June 29, 2024) at seven (7) in the morning and conclude at seven (7) in the evening, and in the event of a second round, the elections will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
