On 22 June, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the candidate for the 2024 presidential elections, affirmed that the record of achievements accomplished in Mauritania over the last five years was excellent despite the multiple constraints that marked this period and the regional and international crises.

He added in a speech delivered in Tidjikja, the capital of the wilaya of Tagant, that the government adopted during the past term an objective development policy that allowed the national economy to resist, master the general balances, and establish an active diplomacy which has strengthened the country’s relations with the states of the world, particularly neighboring countries, thus allowing Mauritania to ensure a very strong presence on the international scene.

He added that during the next term, he will focus on building a strong, prosperous State where law reigns, where the administration will be efficient and at the service of the citizens, where its army will be strong and professional, and where priority will be given to education and employment of young people.

The candidate further indicated that he would carry out strong reforms to create appropriate conditions for the empowerment of young people and the strengthening of their role in the different areas of development through the creation of employment opportunities, an agricultural revolution intended to enable food self-sufficiency and the mobilization of all efforts to take advantage of animal wealth and improve the living conditions of workers.

He then reviewed some achievements accomplished for the benefit of the wilaya of Tagant during the first term, which included the construction of five educational establishments and five health points, the construction of a hospital in the town of Tidjikja, the construction of 12 water networks, the drilling of 17 new wells, the electrification of Nimlane, the construction of an urban road network in Tidjikja, the start of the Tidjikja- EL Ghoudiya – Boumdeid road, the construction of 22 dams and 36 small dikes, health insurance for 22,791 people, cash transfers to thousands of families and the construction of 92 social housing in Tidjikja.

The candidate also committed to increasing investments intended for the Wilaya of Tagant and directing them toward the areas of livestock breeding, agriculture, and tourism while giving particular interest to young people in terms of training, education, and integration.

He finally called on the population of Tagant to vote for him again during the next presidential elections, the first round of which will take place on 29 June 2024 to allow him to continue his development action, the results of which were visible to all during the first term, he said.
