The Minister of Health, Mr. Mohamed Nedhirou Ould Hamed, received Wednesday, at Nouakchott International Airport Oumtounsy, the first batch of Vaccines provided by the COVAX initiative.
This batch consists of 69000 shots provided by the international COVAX alliance, which aims to give Mauritania enough COVID-19 vaccines to vaccinate 20% of the population.
In a speech on this occasion, the minister of health stressed that Mauritania was among the first countries that joined the COVAX initiative, which seeks for distributing vaccines in a fair and transparent manner.
He added that this batch will boost the national vaccination campaign, which was launched on March 26 under the supervision of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.
The Minister thanked Mauritania’s partners, hoping that they unite their efforts with the government in order to vaccinate 63% of the population.
On his part, the Head of the EU delegation in Mauritania, His Excellency Mr. Giacomo Durazzo, affirmed the EU’s support to Mauritania in its vaccination campaign.
