President of Republic Receives Delegation of European Investors

On 25 April, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic and Chairman of the African Union (AU), received a delegation of European investors as part of the commitment of the European Union to support the development and exploitation of our country’s potential in the field of green hydrogen.

The European delegation includes numerous representatives of European companies operating in the field of hydrocarbons such as Total Energies, development agencies, and foreign trade agencies of the European Union. The delegation also includes a representative of the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The meeting focused on economic relations and commercial and industrial prospects between our country and the European Union and the need to take advantage of the favorable investment climate in Mauritania in the field of exploitation and development of green hydrogen.

In a statement at the end of the meeting, Mr. Gwilym Jones, the spokesperson for the European investment delegation, expressed his sincere thanks to the President of the Republic and the Mauritanian government for hosting this important delegation made up of 17 European development companies, foreign trade agencies, and the European Investment Bank, and which represents the entire chain interested in investment in green hydrogen, and which has an interest, particularly to work with Mauritania to develop and exploit this country’s capabilities in the field of green hydrogen. 

Mr. Jones stressed that this effort requires major resources in infrastructure and capacity building in terms of training and rehabilitation, which will open up promising prospects and opportunities for Mauritanian and European businesses to work together to achieve this great common ambition between Mauritania and the EU.
