The first international conference in our country on artificial intelligence and its applications in the era of digital transformations began on Tuesday at the Palais des Congrès in Nouakchott.
This conference, organized by the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Nouakchott, aims to promote the country’s orientations in digital transformation plans and the uses of artificial intelligence, promote and stimulate scientific research at the University of Nouakchott and draw the attention of researchers and students to the importance of artificial intelligence
The Minister of Digital Transformation, Innovation and Modernization of Administration, Mr. Mohamed Abdallahi Ould Louli, Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, highlighted in a speech on the occasion, the importance of this first conference, which will allow openness to the opportunities provided by artificial intelligence in various fields, especially in an era characterized by digitization and huge information flowing in all disciplines.
He said that the world today is witnessing major transformations in light of the acceleration of the development of artificial intelligence tools and their effects on various aspects of life such as medicine, education, human and economic development, infrastructure, resource management, and others.
He added that artificial intelligence technologies in their entirety provide great opportunities for the least developed countries by providing important opportunities and innovative solutions to the challenges faced by these countries, which helps to overcome the stages of traditional development and improve livelihood opportunities.
In this regard, he noted the organization of this scientific conference by the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Nouakchott, with the participation of distinguished experts from several brotherly and friendly countries.
He stressed that the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Innovation and Modernization of Administration is counting on the results of this conference as a scientific basis for cooperation between it and the higher education and scientific research sector to support the national plan for digital transformation, which occupies an important place in the program of the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh EL Ghazouani.
In a speech earlier, the Chairperson of the Conference Organizing Committee, Fatima bint Mohamed Salek, noted that AI represents an unparalleled opportunity to stimulate Mauritania’s socio-economic development and to overcome the challenges facing the country in an ever-changing world.
She added that advanced technologies are capable of solving all the problems resulting from the changing transformations that the world is witnessing in the field of digitization, noting that artificial intelligence has many uses of interest to humanity such as education, health, environment, water, human resources and other vital areas of public benefit to the country and the citizen.
She expressed her gratitude to international and national partners for their active participation in the organization of the Conference.
The opening ceremony took place in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the President of the University of Nouakchott, and officials of higher education institutions.
