President of Republic Welcomes Resoultion of Political Crisis in Senegal

His Excellency the President of the Republic and current Chairperson of the African Union, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, welcomed  Saturday the successful resolution of the political crisis in Senegal and called on all candidates and political actors to maintain this constructive momentum for organizing free, transparent, and peaceful elections.

Here is the full text of the statement of His Excellency the President of the Republic:

“I welcome the successful resolution of the political crisis in Senegal with the announcement by the President of the Republic of the presidential election date set for March 24, 2024, which was also approved by the Constitutional Council.

This is a testament to Senegal’s deep-rooted democratic principles and the resilience of its institutions.

I urge all candidates and other parties, including civil society, to uphold this positive momentum for organizing free, transparent, and peaceful elections.”
